/ Energy Refunds

Reclaim historical energy overcharges — backdated up to 6 years.

We carry out a forensic line-by-line audit of every electricity and gas bill you've paid — challenging incorrect VAT, wrongly applied Climate Change Levy (CCL), unit-rate errors, capacity charges and standing-charge uplifts. The refund is paid directly to your business by the supplier.

/ What we reclaim

Every charge on a UK energy bill is auditable.

Energy bills hide six layers of charges — wholesale unit rate, standing charge, VAT, Climate Change Levy, capacity / availability charges and pass-through non-commodity costs. We force the implementation of fair billing practices that hold suppliers to the contract charges they agreed to, eradicating the complaints and disputed bills that waste your time and drain your margin. Errors in any one layer compound over years — we catch every one.

Wrong VAT rate (20% instead of 5%)

Charities, care homes, residential blocks and many low-usage businesses qualify for the reduced 5% VAT rate. Suppliers routinely default to 20% — the difference is reclaimable for up to 4 years.

Climate Change Levy (CCL) overcharges

CCL should not apply to qualifying low-usage supplies, charities, domestic-use elements, or sites covered by a Climate Change Agreement. Wrongly applied CCL is a direct cash refund.

Unit-rate & standing-charge errors

We rebuild every line of your historical bills against the contract you actually signed — catching unit-rate uplifts, deemed-rate switches and standing-charge inflations the supplier never disclosed.

Estimated reads & back-billing breaches

Under Ofgem back-billing rules, suppliers cannot charge for unbilled energy more than 12 months old. Estimated-read errors and catch-up bills are challengeable and refundable.

Out-of-contract & deemed-rate periods

Rolled silently onto deemed or out-of-contract rates? We benchmark every kWh against the in-contract rate and recover the difference where the renewal process failed regulator standards.

KVA / capacity charge over-provisioning

Half-hourly sites are often billed on agreed capacity well above actual demand. We re-rate the available capacity and reclaim excess capacity charges, typically 18–36 months back.

/ Beyond Energy Refunds

We recover overcharges, re-tender every overhead, and audit your suppliers regularly — so the savings stick.

Business-Utility is the UK's end-to-end overhead consultancy. We forensically audit your invoices across electricity, gas, water, telecoms, card processing, insurance and business rates — clawing back up to six years of supplier overcharges as a lump-sum capital injection. We then re-tender every contract whole-of-market to slash your ongoing costs, enforce fair billing practices that lock in the charges your supplier actually agreed to, and put your suppliers under continuous regular performance audit so billing errors, sneaky uplifts, disputed charges and out-of-contract rates can never bleed your business again — eradicating supplier complaints for good.
